The best way to love a reef is to leave it looking as if you were never there.
In Cozumel, good reef etiquette is less about performing environmental concern and more about simple underwater discipline: control your body, control your equipment, give wildlife space and pay attention to the guide who knows the conditions in front of you.
Start with buoyancy
Good buoyancy is one of the most useful forms of reef protection. The goal is to move through the water without kicking, kneeling on or grabbing the reef for balance.
If you are rusty, say so before the dive. A day in the DIVE IN collection should match your comfort level, not your ego.
Keep your equipment close
Secure gauges, alternate air sources, cameras and anything else that can hang below you. A diver can have excellent intentions and still damage the reef with a piece of equipment dragging behind them.
Do not touch, stand on, chase or feed marine life
Wildlife does not need to perform for us. Give animals room, avoid blocking their path and let encounters happen without turning them into a pursuit.
The same principle applies to the reef itself: look closely, take photographs if you want them, and leave everything where it is.
Listen to the briefing
Conditions, routes and group needs can change from one outing to another. Pay attention to the guide's briefing before entering the water and follow instructions underwater. Good reef behavior includes being a predictable member of the group.
If it is your first time scuba diving
You are not expected to arrive with perfect buoyancy. You are expected to listen, learn and move at a pace that lets the instructor keep the experience controlled. TATICH's TRY DIVE experiences are built around personal instruction rather than pushing a large group through the same rhythm.
If your group mixes divers and non-divers
Respect for the sea is not limited to scuba divers. Snorkelers and riders can follow the same basic idea: give wildlife space, avoid touching the reef and leave the place as you found it. For mixed groups, SEA YOUR WAY keeps everyone on the same private day without forcing everyone into the same activity.
Take memories. Leave the reef.
At TATICH, Guardian of the Reef is not meant to be a slogan disconnected from the water. The practical version is simple: arrive curious, move carefully and leave the reef with nothing missing and nothing added.
EL MAR ES TU CASA. Treat it that way.
